When the sealant fails, you end up with a roof leak. Because most sealant is clear, it’s hard to notice when it’s no longer doing its job.

Another frequent entry point is most common with asphalt roofing. When the shingles are blown upward in a strong wind event, that shingle or row of shingles, are not longer properly affixed to the home. They may look like they’re still doing their job, but in the next storm when it’s windy, the rain water will blow up under the shingle and find its way into your home.

How to Identify the Source of Your Roof Leaks

Not all wind damage is visible to the naked eye from the ground. That’s why a good roofing company will climb on your roof and may even ask to go into your attic. Once you know what you’re looking for, you may be able to spot the source of your roof leak. However, you’ll still want to call a roofing company for proper repair and a complete roofing inspection. Often when your roof’s sealant around the flashing fails on one part of the house, it fails throughout. And, when wind damages a few shingles, chances are good that most of that side of the home may have sustained damage. You may even have an insurance claim which your roofing company can advise you about.
