More Roof Repair FAQs

In last week’s blog (click here if you missed it), we started answering some of the most frequently asked roof repair questions. We’re going to continue that in today’s blog. We invite you to call us and ask any questions you have about roof repair or replacement and we’ll answer them fully and honestly. With our vast experience, there’s little we haven’t seen or done.

It’s Just a Leak, Why Do I Need a Roof Replacement?

There are a few reasons why your roofing company may recommend a roof replacement over a roof repair. First, there is a law in Florida that states if more than 25% of your roof’s surface requires repair within a 12-month period, the roof must be replaced. Sometimes your roofer simply can’t repair due to state regulations. Other times, it’s in your best interest to replace it due to safety. If you doubt that you need a replacement, get another opinion.

Will My New Shingles or Tile Match My Old?

That’s tough to say. A good roofing company will do their best to match your roof’s appearance. Sometimes the shingle color you have is no longer manufactured. Other times the fading is so extensive that your roofer can’t match it exactly.

Should I Always Call the Roofer Who Installed My Roof?

Good roofing companies offer a workmanship guarantee for at least one year. If your roof is less than a year old, yes, call the company who originally installed it as chances are good there was an issue with installation or storm damage if you already have a leak. You aren’t obligated to call them but if you had a good experience with them, you should as they know your roof and have documentation on it.

How Long Should the Repair Last?

Roof repair shouldn’t be a temporary solution. If your roofer says they stopped the roof leak, it should not come back. If it does, they didn’t do the job properly. You should not need a re-repair anytime. If you do, either the roofer didn’t find the source of the leak or didn’t perform the repair properly. In cases like these, you may want a second opinion on the leak and the repair.
