It seems that today, more than ever, there are unreliable contractors in every field who give the good ones a bad name. Because your roof is a big investment in your home, you want to make sure that the local roofing company you hire for your roof repair or roof replacement is one you can trust to do the job right, as promised and stand behind their work. The next two blogs cover a few tips to help you choose the right roofer for your home or business.
It should go without saying that you want any local roofing company you call to have the basics of the right licenses and insurance. Unfortunately, all too many roofers take short cuts and use other company’s licenses to pull permits or don’t pull a permit at all. Uninsured contractors leave you potentially liable for damage or harm that happens while they’re working on your home. In Florida, the law states that their licensed number must be publicly displayed. That means you should be able to find it on their website easily and verify it with the state’s database.
First impressions matter. Today, the first impression is often from a Google search and shows you their star rating and a link to their website. Remember, no one can please everyone all the time so it’s highly unlikely that you’ll find a local roofing company with only five star Google reviews (unless they only have one or two) so look at the totality of the reviews as you form your opinion.
Next, as you look at their website, you should be able to tell if they specialize in what you need. Don’t hire a commercial roofer for your steep slope roof and don’t hire a roofer who only talks about asphalt shingles to replace your tile roofing. Their website should also provide you with a good feel for the company, their experience and any professional association affiliations or endorsements. You can always check these on the manufacturer’s and association websites.
When they show up at your home, pay attention to when they arrive, are they on time? This may be an indication of when they show up to do the job. Is the estimator dressed appropriately and driving a reliable vehicle? These are signs of how well the company takes care of and cares about their employee.
